Censorship: The Closing of Minds

My father was an amateur war historian who specialized in World War 2. Because of this I had access to a lot of his reference material, and absorbed a fair amount of information about this terrible conflict.

There are a few things about the war which have fascinated me over the years. One of the most haunting revelations was the ignorance of the German people regarding the death camps. In interview after interview, I read that the good citizens were horrified to hear of the atrocities committed by their charismatic leader and his accomplices.

I could never understand how these terrors could be perpetrated without the knowledge of the general populace.
Now, I understand that it is relatively easy with effective censorship and propaganda.

Even while I was having a problem believing that such ignorance could exist; the same kind of thing was happening under my nose in my own country

... and I didn't know !!
